Fabrice Sottas began playing the cello at the Geneva Conservatory and then studied at the Glenn Gould Professional School in Toronto, the Richard Strauss Conservatory and the University of Music and Theatre in Munich, and the Haute Ecole de Musique in Geneva. In 2002, he received the scholarship award from the André François Marescotti Foundation - City of Carouge.
